The best of 2009: Movies (drama)

2009 has not been short of good dramas, with the Oscars this year, being the best Academy Awards probably ever, the film industry was given some very talented and smart films, the summer was not short of very smart and brilliant dramas this year. Here is a list of the best dramas so far of 2009:

1: Slumdog Millionaire

Probably one of the best films released in the last decade let alone the last year, Slumdog Millionaire was a very different film, set completely in Mumbai it follows the life of Jamal, a teenager who grew up in the slums, and who is now a contestant on the Indian version of Who wants To Be A Millionaire. When arrested under suspicion of cheating, Jamal begins to tell his life story and how he knows the answers.

Danny Boyle did a fantastic job with this film, it deserved all of the awards it won in 2009 and it was a stunning and amazing film, one that will remain on everyone's minds for years to come.

2: My Sister;s Keeper

Based on the book from Jodi Picoult, My Sister's Keeper shows the life of Kate, a young girl who is dying of leukaemia and is relying on her younger sister Anna, who was 'made' to help save her sisters life. What happens when Anna decides that she's had enough? How will the family cope with Anna making a decision which will ultimately kill Kate.

A film which keeps you up and down throughout, you will feel all kinds of emotions, throughout the whole film, you will find yourself crying one moment, and then the next moment, jokes will be pouring out of the screen. A very different film, one that didn't get the recognition it deserved due to the fact they changed the ending from the book, but with an awesome cast this film really did deliver and is easily one of the best dramas to grace out screens this year.

3: The Time Traveller's Wife

Another chick flick, and again based on a book, this film managed to do something that a lot of films and television shows have attempted to do over the years, make time travelling believable and comical. The film despite being graced with the most wooden male lead ever, was funny and ultimately one of the best dramas that was released this year. Henry has a gene which causes him to time travel, The Time Traveller's wife follows him dealing with this gene and his life with his wife. A very good film, very dramatic at the same time a pleasure to watch.

4: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

The marmite film of 2009 is The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, you either love it or you hate
