Once upon a time beauty experts warned against plucking above the brow. It was a beauty sin akin to haphazardly picking at a pimple. However, with the realization that well shaped brows dramatically influence the appearance of a person's face, a revolution in brow styling has taken place. It is now considered common practice to do whatever it takes to create a brow shape that flatters the structure of your face. We have evolved from only plucking under the brow line, to not only plucking above, but trimming to perfection.
When you should consider plucking above the brow?
Although it is no longer a case of never touch these hairs, it is still very much a case of proceed with caution. All your shape creation should still take place under the brow. You should only be plucking above the brow if you have stray hairs that are preventing you from creating a clean, well defined brow line. This is largely dependent on a person's natural hair growth pattern. Some women have a naturally well defined brow line at the top and really don't need to go near this area. Others are a little wilder and woollier and possess hairs that make their brow line look a little straggly. It's a bit like performing the final hairs breathe snips when manicuring a bush, rather than the actual shaping part.
Recommendations on plucking above the brow
When it comes to plucking hairs from above the brow line, it is thoroughly recommended that you seek an opinion from an experienced brow stylist before attacking this area. This doesn't mean you have to pay for a professional service every time, but the assistance of an expert in the first instance is very valuable.
When it comes time to tackle your own, it is advisable to have a few tools on hand. These include; a brow comb, precision tweezers, nail scissors, a piece of string and a white brow pencil. You should firstly use a brow comb to brush the hairs into place so that you can clearly see what you are working with. To tell where stray hairs lie, take your piece of string and hold it along the main line of your upper brow line. Anything that sits above this should be marked with the white pencil. By doing this you should be able to see exactly what hairs are making your brows look bushy, rather than sleek. If you simply randomly pluck wherever you think, you may end up with a mess on your hands and this can take six weeks or more to grow back. Precision shaped tweezers are well suited to plucking in this region, since you need to be extremely careful and avoid plucking other hairs by mistake.
In some cases, removing a hair from the root may not be the most appropriate course of action, because it will end up leaving a gap in your brow line. So take note of where the hair begins, not only where it ends. If it is merely the ends that are spoiling your brow line, then brush the hairs upwards and trim it off to match.
Some women suffer from excess hair growth and may find that they have dark hairs in the temple region and well above the brow. If these hairs are particularly noticeable, you might like to wax this region.
