Tonight I walk the homeless beat
where GLBT youth retreat
to find a sympathetic ear
a friend to help assuage their fear
Kicked to the curb by those who they
thought would love them, come what may
But who instead on finding out
their child was queer without a doubt
could not bare the ridicule
saving face is much less cruel
How can a child expect a parent
to handle such news without lament?
to take this warped and dangerous road
knowing what a heavy load
it places on these pillars tall -
won't they just such shame forestall?
Without a glance or nod my way
they huddle close behind the fray
occurring as one of their own
fights one more bully who's not alone
Two more fists get in the fight
on this dark and cold, cold night
Then two more and yet again
two more punch with evil grins
Die you faggot - listen here
let's rid the world of one more queer
One more kick below the belt
one to the head - but it's not felt
The angels circle and await
to take this bright soul to the gate
The one for those whose true desire
was to love another without the ire
Of judgment, scorn and ridicule
to be treated as equal their only fuel
It's time for us to look within
and judge only if we are without sin
For from within these lonely souls
projects an image that we all know
they reveal a bitter truth -
our judgment of GLBT youth
What we do to one another
regardless of our rationale
reveals a truth so bright or hollow
there's only one clear path to follow
One with loving open arms
choosing first to do no harm
Whatever our religious stories
of the one and only path to glory
One truth remains without debate
- love is love and hate is hate.

The Strength of a Woman
The rough purple mountains seemed like boundaries, closing in around her, like a hangman’s
Island girl of wholesome grace
youthful, fresh and fair of face
That's what they see,
yet really not the real me.

Inside are beasts in cages

They say I never smile or cry
They think I never do a thing
They think those words
