It is ironic that bullfighting is listed as a sport. This sport is a one sided affair with the winner predetermined before they ever enter the ring. The bull is taking from the group and tethered in a stall by himself where there is no light or water. He is often beaten and sometimes the horns are shaved down to ensure there will be little damage to the opponent and keep the bull off balance. This is against the law but is still practiced in many bullfights. This is just a precursor to the torment and anguish that is yet to come.
Most bulls are tortured before they ever see the ring by being stabbed and tormented to a point of frustration that we as humans can only imagine. After the bull is put through this torment he is released to into the bull fighting ring. Without his horns intact he is already at a great disadvantage as a bull uses these to navigate. He runs in the ring and usually stumbles around in circles or bumps into things without really seeing them. At this time a group of picadors enter the ring to rein more terror on this animal. Picadors are on horseback and proceed to drive lances in the neck and back of the bull. The intent for this is to ensure the bull can't raise his neck or head once the matador enters the ring.
Next the matador makes his appearance in the ring with cheers from the thousands of people that have gathered. Most people think this is the bravest man that lives but they don't realize they are looking at a bull that is almost dead already. The matador will make a wonderful brave presentation of taunting the bull in order to finish him off. The bull in the meantime has lost a great amount of blood and can barely run towards the red cape that taunts him. The focal point is when the bull has made a few near passes at the matador to give people the show they came to see and the sword is driven home and hopefully the bull has met his fate if he is lucky. Sometimes the sword is not driven deep enough which makes the bull fall still immersed in pain. If the matador's sword hasn't pierced the heart then the spinal cord is cut leaving the bull unable to move. Sometimes they are dragged by the horns still alive and in misery from the ring.
Why are these practices still being allowed in this world today? When we think that some of our laws forbid a dog be driven in a car without restraints of some sort, how can we justify what's happening to bulls in the bullfighting ring be allowed to continue. These are animals and deserve to meet death in a more humane way than this. We are supposed to be living in a civil society yet this farce is allowed to go on. This is not for food, it is not done to benefit humans in any way, except the ego of the matador and the screaming people that seem to get their kicks out of seeing blood run from an animal that has suffered far beyond what is necessary.
The mere fact that an animal is suffering is enough to put a stop to this torture. We have to start somewhere and it starts with us as humans beings. We have to let people know exactly what is happening to these animals and the stupidity of it. Although this practice has been banned in the US we as a people can put pressure on our government to put a stop to this unusually cruelty. We has a people can boycott these countries and refuse to visit them or give them our hard earned dollars. Let them know that this practice is unacceptable in society today. It may start with one of us but it could also lead to a total ban on the cruelty of bullfighting.
