Poetry: Madness

Nemesis

Rising golden in the east,
casting shadows over the world,
how could the end come with such beauty?

First were the rumors,
then fire tipped rockets slicing the sky,
revealing how frail we are with her natural majesty.

We had warnings and omens,
scar-pitted craters on our lunar companion,
but we ignored them and fought amongst ourselves.

Ancient stories told of her,
ice cracked cliffs and flood swept mountains,
were her legacy left as ancient reminders of future's promise.

It was madness,
our self-conceit and mutual hostility,
feuding over the ephemeral while the sword hung above us.

It was maddening chaos,
when the crowds found out,
looting, robbing, killing as if it would help in the end.

A child cries abandoned,
a cock crows at the midnight sun rising,
but all of the eggs will be broken in this basket.

Now she descends,
this time she will not merely visit.
Nemesis is here to stay.
