Then You Discovered

You believed the lies. The Body-
so limber,
The core of you-
so forgiving
The mind-
so open
You never let the chains of reality
seize the dream that you felt was certain.

Then you discovered. Nothing is yours.
You don't even own your tears. Yes, these leave.
Body still vibrant. Corners of eyes never touched by
the footsteps of birds.
But, now, you no longer believe. Now,
The Body-
sore from the falls
The core of you-
cautious, pessimistic, angry, aged
The mind-
owns the sluggish stagger of a slave
weighed down by reality.
You won't ever let inexperience of youth
to carry away the person who knows.
The hallucinations of happiness
that you were once entitled
don't exist.

You learned prematurely.
Internal youth was transitory. Disillusionment
robbed your thriving body of its juvenile dreams.
The elderly soul is left.
Damaged.
