Bed and breakfast reviews: State House Inns, Providence RI

The State House Inns are located in downtown Providence Rhode Island . There are two Inn, one is the Christopher Dodge House and the other is the Mowry Nichols House. They are both 19th century homes that are now in-city bed and breakfast accommodations.

Our room was in the Christopher Dodge House. This is not the easiest place in the world to find especially using a GPS. I suggest you print out the map on the bed and breakfast website, it really gives a much better idea. Downtown Providence is confusing and trying to keep left and turn right will get you lost. We knew what we were doing and still in the dark had problems. We did however arrive and there is a parking lot in back of the bed and breakfast.

The office is on the ground floor. There is a sign that says office but the way it is placed we weren't quite sure if it was the door upstairs or the door downstairs, downstairs it is. We were warmly greeted and escorted to the second floor where the breakfast room is. It is a lovely room with a large table in the center and smaller tables for two around the edge. The breakfast process was explained as well as the honor fridge with water and soda and a coffee machine.

Now it is two more floors up to our bedroom on the third floor. Be aware that if you have room 9-12 you are on the third floor and there is no elevator. My knees were screaming and even more so later when I limped down to get coffee. There is at least one ground floor room so if stairs scare you this may not be the place for you.

Our room was large with a king sized bed with an ecru coverlet. There was also a twin bed in our room, I am quite at a loss to understand why they chose this room for us but whatever. There is a large oak armoire that holds the TV and there are a lot of channel choices. The room also has a desk and a wing chair. There is a gas stove on the wall across from the bed, some of the rooms have fireplaces, I wish I had asked for one. There is also a ceiling fan. The bed is very comfortable but I would have liked a feather pillow option.

There are lights next to both sides of the king bed and on one side of the twin. The floor is shiny wood with hooked throw rugs. The whole building is immaculate and everything shines.

The bathroom is small with a tub, vanity and toilet. The pressure was just okay but there was plenty of hot water. They provided Gilcrest and Soames shampoo and soap but no lotion or conditioner. There is a travel ironing board and an iron in the tiny closet as
