As I lay me down to rest,
if I should die today.
I'd like to know I've done my best
To pave a better way
For my daughter and my son
Who, for wisdom, look to me
As the sage and helpful one
Which is what I've tried to be.
Lord, if I should die to day
I ask that it should be
A time that all would say
I left a lasting legacy.

If I die today, would I feel sorrow?
If I die today, and not on the 'morrow
Would anyone bother looking back
Through the smokestack
If I die not tomorrow but today
hold your smile do not cry
because I will make sure you're okay
don't be shy, never say goodbye,

If I should die today
Please don't be sad.
I shared my joy with all I met
So I will continue on.
In memories and stories

If I die today
Let me be the wind that dries your tears
If I die today
Let me be the gentle lullaby by your ears
If I die
If I die today
Let it be said of me
That I left the world
Better than I met it
If I die today
I shall live on
In the minds
