"Ashling's Prerogative" is a red enchantment spell printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." This is one of those enchantments that will either help or hurt you for the most part. Playing Ashling's Prerogative is pretty risky unless you know exactly what you are doing for the most part. Against many aggressive players, Ashling's Prerogative could slow down their momentum. That is provided that you know what cards they are using in their decks.
The converted mana cost for Ashling's Prerogative is two. You will need one red mana and one colorless mana to bring Ashling's Prerogative onto the battlefield. For what Ashling's Prerogative can do, the converted mana cost seems to be pretty worth it for the most part. Keep in mind that this is an enchantment spell. Spells and abilities that target enchantments will affect Ashling's Prerogative.
What does Ashling's Prerogative do in the first place?
As soon as Ashling's Prerogative enters the battlefield, you pick odds or evens. The sum of zero is considered to be an even as well. This is considered to be the moment of faith. It will either help you or hurt you for the most part. Say that you decided to pick even, creatures with the casting cost of an even number have Haste. It means that they are not affected by summoning sickness. Creatures with Haste can attack immediately the moment they enter the battlefield.
Since you did not pick odds, creatures with an odd number converted mana cost enter the battlefield tapped. Again, this can either hurt you or help you. If you know you have creatures with an even number for a converted mana cost, you can pick even. In a sense, this is good/bad for control/aggressive decks. It all depends on what kind of creatures you and your opponents have.
In a sense, this is better suited for a side-board provided that you know what creatures your opponents have. If your opponents have mostly creatures with a converted mana cost of an even number, you may want to put odd number creatures into your deck. Then, you can play Ashling's Prerogative. Doing so will lock down your opponent's decks for the time being until they have a chance to play a spell such as "Naturalize" or "Disenchant." The same thing goes if your opponents have creatures with an odd number casting cost. You would want to put creature cards in your deck with an even number casting cost.
Overall, Ashling's Prerogative is all right. However, it is not that great because you have a 50/50 chance of making use of it. At the same time, there is the chance that it could hurt you. Before putting Ashling's Prerogative into a deck, do your research first.
