Promoting yourself by using business cards

Promoting yourself by using business cards is easy to do. They are small and inconspicuous, inexpensive to make, and a great way to let people know who you are and what you do. Designing business cards can be a little tricky, but it doesn't have to be. Simple is better. People don't want to search for your information on your business card. They merely want to know how to contact your or look at your work.

*Information to Include on Your Business Card

The first thing you want people to see on your business card is the name of your company or the company you are representing. If you have a logo, it should be clearly visible next to your company name or incorporated as part of the design on your card.

The next thing you want people to know is who you are, so put your name under the company name. If you are promoting your personal work and you have a website, this should be included under your name. These days, most people want to visit your website before calling you. They expect that many of their questions will be answered there, and it might just save them a phone call. Finally, include your phone numbers. Put your mobile number as well as a landline if you have one.

*Designing Your Business Card

Business cards are tools that make it easy for people to find out who you are and what you do. They need to be kept free of fancy fonts and overly detailed backgrounds. You should keep them crisp and light, easy to read, attractive to view, and focused on providing information that will get people to do more than add them to the pile they've already accumulated.

There are a variety of papers available for you to use to print your business card. Cardstock is popular, and it comes with and without minimal texture. Using the right paper for your business card allows you to keep it simple, as the paper itself makes a statement about your business.

*How Much Business Cards Cost

Business cards can cost as much or as little as you need to fit your budget. Some companies have their own business cards already available, and you are expected to order yours through them. Sometimes this is part of their business budget. Depending on your role, you may have to order your own cards and pay for them yourself.

If you need a business card for personal purposes not associated with an outside source, you can make your own business cards right on your computer. Using simple tools already on most computers, you can create a logo and add the appropriate information. You can even purchase punch out cards that come in sheets, just like paper, to print them on.

If you simply don't have time to make your own business cards, you can hire someone to make them for you. This too can cost as little or as much as you want, depending on your design needs and quantity purchased.

*Using Your Business Card

Once you have the perfect business card, you need to get it out there for people to see and use. Leave it on the table when you go out to eat. Leave it on the counter in public restrooms. Hand it out wherever you go to whoever you meet. Using your business card to network is not only easy, but important. Business cards are tangible. They stick around long after someone has moved away from your website. And they give people a cue to go back to it too.
