Soothing cracked heels and hands

It's almost a given that heels and hands have a tendency to crack with dry weather. Calluses form and inevitably, heels and hands tend to dry out, sometimes to the point of cracking and bleeding even. It's easy to point to prevention before things get to that point, but sometimes, dry skin sneaks up on us, and then we need to fix them in a hurry.

One of the easiest ways to heel terribly dry skin is to moisturize it. But with so many moisturizing products on the market, it can be tough to know which products to use. Let's face it, almost every beauty manufacturer offers a select line tailoring their products to specific needs. We could try several before finding one that actually works. Or worse yet, we could try some that actually make our dry skin worse.

That's why it's important to think about ingredients in moisturizer. Moisturizers with added ingredients like perfumes and scents actually could dry our heels and hands out more quickly than moisturizer without smelly additives. While it is nearly impossible to find good cream or lotion without additives, it is not impossible to find products with minimal ingredient lists.

Another thing to consider is the density of our lotion or cream. Cream is naturally thicker than lotion. It takes longer to work into our skin, which helps it remain active longer too. This is especially important to think about if you are constantly washing your hands. Moisturizing applications tend to happen less often when using cream.

Overnight moisturizing is a wonderful practice. There are all sorts of gloves and booties on the market that help seal in moisturizer while we sleep. A big bonus to this is that they can be thrown into the washing machine between uses, so we can use them over and over again. All we need to do is apply our moisturizer when we're ready to go to bed. We can use as much as we want, making a nice thick coat over our hands and heels, and it doesn't have to be worked in completely. Put on our gloves and booties when we're ready to go to bed, and in the morning, our hands and heels will be softer and smoother, ready for us to begin our day.

Moisturizing cracked heels and hands is important, especially during extremely dry weather. We should try to use unscented products for maximum effect. We can also combine a small amount of petroleum jelly with our cream or lotion for even faster results.
