London is a must-see city for visitors to Europe. Even though it is known as an expensive holiday destination, London has so much to offer visitors that few European cities can compete with it. To make up for its expensive accommodation and food, London is a hub for cheap flights to destinations around Europe and great flight deals can often be made in London. London in the summer is filled with festivals, concerts and other events, the spring is a great time to visit London's blooming parks, and London in winter offers fantastic wintertime activities and excellent Christmas shopping, not to mention the January sales.
Rome is another must-see city in Europe, filled with stunning architecture, history and of course Italian food, one of the best cuisines in the world and one of the best reasons to visit Rome. Just like in London, there is so much to see in Rome that one visit is not enough, and many visitors to Rome keep returning again and again.
Paris is a classic European city break destination and always popular for honeymoons and romantic weekends. Connected to many destinations in Europe by an effective train network, Paris is easy to get to from almost every part of Europe. Beautiful architecture, world-famous art galleries, fashionable shops and chic boutiques, the romantic shores of the Seine and the French cuisine all make Paris an unforgettable city for visitors to Europe.
Amsterdam is one of the best cities to visit in Europe. Small, affordable, easy to get around and a safe city even for lone female travellers, Amsterdam is an excellent destination for a few days of culture and shopping. Famous for its coffee shops and its red light district, Amsterdam offers a lot more: historical canal houses, some of Europe's best museums, exciting nightlife and great antique and jewellery markets. Most of Amsterdam's best tourist attractions are within a walking or cycling distance of each other, and Amsterdam's affordable and effective public transportation system makes it very easy to travel around the city.
An alternative holiday destination and one of the best cities to visit in Northern Europe is Stockholm. The Swedish capital has a beautiful old town, great markets and shops, trendy bars and excellent cafes and restaurants for watching the world go by. Located by the sea and surrounded by a stunningly beautiful archipelago, Stockholm is at its best in the summer, especially around the summer solstice, when the Scandinavian days are long and nights are short.
