"Cloudthresher" is a 7/7 green elemental printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Lorwyn." In a sense, there are a few ways you can use Cloudthresher. You can use this in an aggressive deck with green with some red or a multicolored control deck with green. Depending on how you are playing, you could find some uses out of the Cloudthresher. Overall, it is an interesting card for the most part.
The initial converted mana cost for Cloudthresher is six. You will need four green mana and two colorless mana to bring Cloudthresher from your hand and onto the battlefield. For what Cloudthresher can do, the casting cost is well worth it. There is an alternative Evoke cost consisting of two green mana and two colorless. You can pay that cost instead and sacrifice Cloudthresher at the end of the turn.
What does Cloudthresher do in the first place?
The Cloudthresher has three interesting abilities. The first ability is known as Flash. You can play Cloudthresher at any given time during the game as if you were playing an instant spell. Since Magic the Gathering has done away with the ruling of having to sacrifice it at the end of the turn, Cloudthresher stays in the game. If your opponents are defenseless, you can play Cloudthresher before the start of your turn. Flash is very much an interesting ability for the most part.
The second ability is known as Reach. Reach is a very handy ability for a creature to have. Reach enables a creature to block creatures with Flying. In most cases, you would take damage if you got attacked by Flying creatures and did not have any of your own. A 7/7 creature that can block Flying creatures is always handy.
The third ability makes use of the alternative Evoke cost. Upon entering the battlefield, Cloudthresher deals two points of damage to each creature with Flying and each Player. If there are a bunch of wimpy creatures on the battlefield with Flying, Cloudthresher can kill them all. Most would make use of the Evoke cost in order to use this ability.
However, the initial cost is not that bad. Green has the best mana acceleration out of all the five colors. There are plenty of green cards that enable you to produce extra mana let alone green mana. You can make use out of "Mana Reflection" to double the amount of mana produced via your sources and bring Cloudthresher onto the battlefield early in the game.
Overall, Cloudthresher is a very handy creature card to have. You can play this at any given time. Against an opponent that uses Flying creatures, Cloudthresher becomes very handy for the most part. In any green deck, Cloudthresher is a useful card to be using.
