Following your heart, your deepest desires, can be either a benefit or break your heart. However, it is the worth the risk in any endeavor you are following. Be it a love relationship, by following you heart, even if things don't work out, you will never go through life wondering "what if?". You should always follow your hearts desire- it's how you figure out if you are meant to be where you want to be. Everyone has a secret wish or desire to fulfill. By going for your dreams, you are striving for happiness.
I had a boy friend a few years ago who I had met at the worst time. I was already getting over a previous break up, but still gave dating a chance. After 3 months I ended it as I was not yet ready to move forward. For about 4 years we still kept in touch, as friends, and sometimes also dated on and off, but no one ever brought up if there were real feelings there or not. After all this time, I realized I loved this guy. He had many qualities that I was looking for in a man, but I wasn't sure how is staying power was. He must have sensed me feeling this way, and finally brought up our relationship. We decided it was time to give it a shot. It went against all of my sense, but I followed my heart and decided to give it my all...
Now, I would love to say that it worked out perfectly and we lived happily ever after, but we didn't. I found that he wasn't the perfect guy- he had flaws like everyone else, including a severe commitment problem, that even bothered him. Every time things were perfectly normal, happy, he would stop calling and just disappear. After confronting him about this, he stated this was out of fear that it wouldn't always be like that. The relationship diminished and we stopped dating. Even though it didn't work out, it was still worth it. I finally found out if we were meant to be or not, and now I can move on with my life knowing I gave it a shot and how things would be. In the short period of time of confusion in this relationship, I learned the importance of communication and misunderstandings, which will help me direct issues in my next relationship more effectively. If not making you live happily ever after, following your heart will teach you invaluable learning experiences which is what life is all about.
