Beginner's guide to the flavors of Mexico

Gastronomical tour of the Mexican Flavors

Mexico is a rich country with diverse culinary delicacies all the way from enchiladas to mole poblano. Like every other country the food is a representation of the people. In Mexico the food varies from hot and spicy to cold and sweet depending on the place that you visit; the food will be different in every place.

Every state in the country of Mexico has their typical foods, for example places that are close to the ocean will have food such as coctel de camarones with a a mix of shrimp and vegetables. If you visit the states closer to the USE you will encounter more foods based on American foods but still with the Mexican touch. Mexican foods are traditionally spicy and have distinctive flavors; many of the foods have usual ingredients such as garlic, chili, pepper, salts and various other spices. The Mexican kitchen has many different styles of cooking; in some parts of the country such as the large cities the food is prepared with more technology is cooked with stoves and regular appliances but in the more rural areas such as in small towns or in more economically poor places the food is prepared the old style in a fire pit and with natural wood. This style of cooking is what gives the rich flavor and the distinctive Mexican taste. If it's your first time visiting Mexico I recommend you try the typical dishes of the state you visit; like I mentioned before every state has distinctive delicacies but most are similar in the rich flavor offered in every bite. The Mexican cuisine is based on corn and beans such in the old Mayan days so you are likely to eat beans and tortillas in most of the typical dishes you try.

Be sure to take the most time possible to enjoy the food and be advised that it might cause an imbalance in your digestive system if you have a sensitive digestive system. But even that won't stop your mouth from enjoying the rich flavors of the Mexican cuisine. A few dishes I advise you to try would be Enchilada which come in different varieties but are typically made with a tortilla covered in a salsa and rolled and inside contains cheese and lettuce and is covered with some toppings, Another dish I recommend is tacos dorados, now this dish you might find only in street stands or in some restaurants and is typical of states like Zacatecas and Jalisco but is found in other parts as well. The dish consists of a small tortilla folded and it has a mashed potato mixture inside and is deep fried and served in a plate with some delicious toppings which consist of a special salsa and lettuce, cheeses, creme and other toppings, I advise you to try as many foods as you can, you won't regret it.
