When visiting Europe one expects to find history, castles, fun, and romance. Dinklesbuhl, Bovaria in Southern Germany provides just that. When looking for a European travel destination most travelers want to find a place that isn't a massive tourist trap, but can still provide what you expect on a European vacation.
I visited Dinklesbuhl while working in Germany in 2007, you can see some photos from my visit to the town in this slide show. Many of the places in the photos are mentioned here.
Old town Dinklesbuhl is surrounded by historical guard towers and an intact wall. There are many hotels, shops and sites located within the guard wall structure itself. Walking the guard wall alone is a site to see as well. Dinklesbuhl's guard wall is surrounded by classically beautiful German landscaping, statues and historical houses. There is no question that there is plenty to see while appreciating Southern Germany's pleasant climate in dinklesbuhl.
When travelers get tired of enjoying the weather and nature, Dinkelsbuhl is also home to Saint George's Minster, a 15th century gothic church. With its glorious towers and full length windows, Saint George is one of the most beautiful hall churches in Germany. Just outside the church stands a historical statue of Christoph Von Schmidt, who was a famous priest, writer and educator born in Dinklesbuhl. Less than a block away stands the Deutsches Haus (literal: German House), which in addition to being lovely is a prime example of German wooden architecture from the renaissance age.
Dinklesbuhl has more than just Churches and architecture too. It also has a 3D museum in what used to be the city mill. The museum contains three floors of amazing paintings, holograms and other 3D wonders. Speaking of museums, the small town has a historical museum as well, which reconstructs homes and everyday items from Germany's past.
At night Dinklesbuhl's many cafes and restaurants located within old town, open and become bars, where tables, drinks and new friends spill right into the streets. It is highly recommended to revisit the guard wall at this time. The many ponds around the outer wall, which are remnants of a moat are gorgeous lit by the moonlight.
All in all Dinkelsbuhl, Germany is an affordable, historical, and wonderful European vacation location where you can see everything from 3D star trek to ancient crucifixes all wrapped in wild flowers, massive oak trees, bees and romance.
