Magic the Gathering card analysis: Brigid, Hero of Kinsbaile

The Kithkin are a race of small but brave creatures and while most of them are not all that powerful but together they can create powerful armies and the best of them are capable of changing the course of battle. And one of the most impressive of the Kithkin heroes is Brigid, hero of Kinsbaile.

Brigid Hero of Kinsbaile is a rare legendary Kithkin Warrior from the Lorwyn expansion set of magic the gathering. It costs two white and two colorless mana and in a 2/3 first strike creature. More important than this though is the creatures ability which requires Brigid, Hero of Kinbaile to tap and the ability reads "Brigid, Hero of Kinsbaile deals 2 damage to each attacking or blocking creature target player controls."

This ability to do a targeted pyroclasm every turn is a vital one because it nearly ends the ability for your opponent to use any type of small creatures to do damage but that is only part of the value of this card. It is most useful when combined with other creatures, and the first strike ability of this cards helps as well.

For example if a 4/4 creature is attack you could declair Brigid Hero of Kinsbaile as the defender, deal two damage of first strike damage then tap to do two damage to each of the attacking creatures killing it before it can do damage to Brigid Hero of Kinsbaile. This sadly will only work on defending for Brigid since if she attacks she will be tapped and unable to use the ability but you can naturally attack with other kithkin and then back them up with the archer hero.

In limited this is far more valuable than in constructed. This is because of the considerable value of removal, as well as the likelyhood that your opponent is going to have less removal making it far harder for this creature to be killed. It can make nearly every close battle come to your advantage because in order for your opponent to actually win a creature battle while you have this out their creature will have to have at least three toughness more than the creature who it blocks or is blocked by. This is not something that is likely to happen in any type of a close battle and even if it does it is not going to be with a large number of creatures.
