Magic the Gathering card analysis: Brion Stoutarm

"Brion Stoutarm" is a 4/4 red and white legendary giant warrior printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering known as "Lorwyn." From the looks of Brion Stoutarm, you may want to have plenty of creatures for the most part. In a one-on-one game, you can do a number on an opponent with Brion Stoutarm. Depending on how you use Brion Stoutarm, you can definitely get a lot out of this card.

The converted mana cost for Brion Stoutarm is four. You will need one red mana, one white mana, and two colorless mana. For what Brion Stoutarm can do, the converted mana cost is well worth it for the most part. Keep in mind that Brion Stoutarm is a legendary creature. Should there be two cards on the battlefield at the same time named Brion Stoutarm, they both get sent to the graveyard.

What does Brion Stoutarm do in the first place?

The first ability of Brion Stoutarm is that it has Lifelink. Whenever it causes damage in any given way to an opponent, you gain that much in life points. In this respect, Lifelink is a very good ability to have is you have ways to deal damage to your opponents.

The second ability lets you pay one red mana and sacrifice a creature other than Brion Stoutarm. Doing so lets Brion Stoutarm deal damage to a target player equal to the sacrifice creature's power points. In this respect, if you sacrificed a creature with the power of seven points, Brion Stoutarm will deal that much in damage points to a target player. In turn with Lifelink, you gain seven points of life.

One can ask: How do you get more out of Brion Stoutarm?

For that, you will need a good combination of cards. Since this is a multicolored card, you could possibly splash in black if you want. The first card you can use is "Boon Reflection." It doubles the amount of life you gain. Using the example above, you can gain fourteen points of life. Another example would be a creature with nine points of power. Brion Stoutarm would deal nine points of damage to a target player as a result. With Boon Reflection, you gain eighteen points of life instead of nine points of life.

If you want, you can also use "Cradle of Vitality." By paying one white mana and one colorless mana, you can put X +1/+1 counters on a creature in which X is equal to the amount of life points you gain.

If you splash black in the deck, you can use "Sanguine Bond" and "Wound Reflection." By gaining life, you can make a target opponent lose that much life with Sanguine Bond. Wound Reflection doubles the amount of life lost. If you sacrificed a creature with the toughness of six, Brion Stoutarm would deal six points of damage to a target player. Lifelink would give you six points of life. If you want, that target player would lose six points of life with Sanguine Bond. At the end of the turn, that player would lose twelve points of life with Wound Reflection.

With the right combination of cards, you can sacrifice one creature and deal a lot of damage to an opponent. Overall, this is a great card to have if you have creatures and cards to compliment its abilities.
