Poetry: Quick fix

by S.C. Kleinhans

An electrifyingly eclectic collection

of demented designers and other deviants

caught within the chaos of Nature's

thoroughly unpredictable ways.

This disaster seemed to play out

over several long and very tedious days.

Billions of cluttered cells, blood and bones

forcefully smeared all over fountain pens,

treasure maps, charts, mountains of money

and diamond-encrusted platinum cell phones.

Trucks, tanks, helicopters and limousines

were transformed into a terrifyingly twisted pretzel.

No quick fix for tortuous little tricks.

Hospitals had been quarantined due to

the devastating effects of the economy and

sixteen different virulent strains of toxic flu.

Luminaries lay dying; their fans crying...

Then the fog and smog rolled in.

Patience and life itself were wearing much too thin.

Two more morgues...out of business.

Celebrities signing autographs as they expired.

The governor and his mayors

all screaming YOU'RE FIRED!

They walked away from the long dismal disarray.

Surreal scene began to slowly decay...

Gaudy ghosts still eagerly awaiting one quick fix.
