Magic the Gathering card analysis: Vengeful Firebrand

Haste is a very easy to overlook because unlike any other ability a creature is likely to have it only matters on the turn that it comes into play, but it is still a powerful ability because a well timed creature with haste can slip through a very well defended opponent and one with a good power can do a considerable amount of damage when it does that.

Vengeful firebrand is a rare 5/2 elemental warrior from the morningtide expansion set of magic the gathering. It costs one red and three colorless to put into play and has haste as well as the firebreathing ability. That is that you can pay one red mana to give it +1/+0 until end of turn.

The first of the abilities, haste is the more important of the two but it only occurs if you have a warrior in the graveyard. This means that the card, while only four mana is likely to be considerably better later in a game but it is still a very useful. And if you build a deck with a considerable number of warriors there is a very good chance that it will have haste at the first time that you will be able to play it it will have haste.

This is important because it if you can simply slip this in once it is well worth four mana to do five damage, especially since the creature will not have went away and even if you can not attack safely with it the next turn there is a very good chance that you will at least be able to trade with a creature.

The second of the spells is the fire breathing ability. This makes the card far more scalable because it allows it to become almost a fireball if you are able to play it when your opponent has no blockers. This can make for a considerable chuck of the opponents life if they are not able to defend against it.

In limited haste is one of the more important abilities because so often you have a far higher chance of being in stand offs and being able to add a single creature quickly and smash into them it can make a huge difference forcing the opponent to readjust his plan quickly, something that people can sometimes do and very often can not.

Although this card requires a high number of warriors to be truly effective even without that it is very likely to be able to exchange itself for at least one creature and often that is all you need.
