Do you like sweets?

Sweet tea comes to my mind when I read the word sweet. It is my weakness. Having grown up in the southern region of the United States it is down right rude to deny that slice of chocolate cake after dinner. Especially if your grandmother slaved all day over that cake! Now you can just go to a supermarket and pray those cakes are just as good as hers.

In all honesty, I love sweets but do not include them in my diet as I did when I was younger. It was okay to go wild and eat every sugary morsel in sight. What child read the nutrition labels on the side of the cereal box? I was more concerned with the brown cereal magically turning my milk into chocolate syrup. Those were my total guilt free days of all you can eat sugar. There are times I still munch on sweet foods. However as I have grown older I take heed to eating plenty because there are certain health issues surrounding consuming so much of those sugary sweets. I find it much easier to push the treats away because I strive to live a much healthier lifestyle.

Sweets were all around me at my childhood home because that was my parents way of rewarding me and my siblings. We had access to what seemed like an unlimited supply of chocolate chip cookies. I remember riding in the car with my father around town and he would stop at the bakery to pick up cakes. Sweets are considered more of a comforting reminder of my childhood. I consider those delicious treats as a sweet reminder. I absolutely love sweets! There are brownies, cheesecakes, cookies and cakes. Goodness, I can feel my blood sugar levels rise as I think of the assortment of desserts.

There are days when I will have a slice of my favorite key lime pie. Five years ago I probably would have ate the whole pie before bed. Today I would vomit at the thought of doing so. I think it is fun to take the time out during the day to bake sweets. A friend of mine actually uses this method as a way to release stress. Baking her own food is soothing. I guess you could add that to a list of why I like sweets. It has made it's way into others lives to provide comfort once again.
