Midnight Hours
(A Villanelle)
You reach out and touch me as you sleep
and waves of confessions I complete
as the midnight hours stealthily creep
Where Pegasus rules is where I leap
when by perfect aim of your cold feet
you reach out and touch me as you sleep
I must have been snoring loud and deep
seduced by vessels of beer and meat
as the midnight hours stealthily creep
When I'm awake I would often weep
beg and pray that would, within our sheet,
you reach out and touch me as you sleep
What manner of love is this I keep
that I would still need you so badly
as the midnight hours stealthily creep
Perhaps the answer I'll never reap
when I move to warm your feet so sweet
you reach out and touch me as you sleep
as the midnight hours stealthily creep
