Magic the Gathering card analysis: Unstoppable Ash

"Unstoppable Ash" is a 5/5 green treefolk warrior creature printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Morningtide." This is one of the cards printed in the Morningtide expansion set that encourage players to build around certain types of creatures. In this respect, players are encouraged to build around treefolks and/or warriors.

The converted mana cost for Unstoppable Ash is four. You will need one green mana and three colorless mana to bring Unstoppable Ash from your hand and onto the battlefield. For what Unstoppable Ash can do, the converted mana cost is well worth it for the most part. Combined with other cards, Unstoppable Ash does become an impressive card to have in a deck. So far, you may want to build this around simply treefolk creatures.

What does Unstoppable Ash do in the first place?

The first thing you need to do is champion a treefolk or warrior. It simply means that you temporarily exile another treefolk or warrior from the game or you sacrifice Unstoppable Ash. When Unstoppable Ash leaves the battlefield, the exiled creature returns to the battlefield. You can always exile a treefolk or warrior token.

The first ability of Unstoppable Ash is that it has Trample. If you attack and your opponent blocks with a creature, s/he is still probably taking combat damage. In this respect, if an opponent blocks with a 2/2 creature, s/he will still take damage. S/he will suffer three points of combat damage. However, it is neither the only nor main ability of Unstoppable Ash.

The main ability allows your creatures to receive +0/+5 until the end of the turn if they get blocked. So far, this is good as a safety measure. Unstoppable Ash is good when it is played aggressively for the most part.

There is a way you can get more out of Unstoppable Ash's abilities. You should combine this with "Doran, the Siege Tower." It is a 0/5 legendary treefolk shaman. When Doran, the Siege Tower is on the battlefield, creatures deal damage equal to their toughness points rather than power points.

If you attack with Unstoppable Ash and a creature blocks with a 3/3 creature, s/he is taking seven points of combat damage. This is due to Unstoppable Ash being blocked by the creature. By being blocked, Unstoppable Ash gets +0/+5 until the end of the turn. With Doran, the Siege Tower on the battlefield, Unstoppable Ash would deal damage equal to its toughness points. Plus, Unstoppable Ash has Trample.

Overall, Unstoppable Ash is a pretty good card to have for the most part. If you have a bunch of treefolk cards such as Doran, the Siege Tower, Unstoppable Ash becomes quite the impressive card to have.
