Magic the Gathering card analysis: Sensation Gorger

"Sensation Gorger" is a 2/2 red goblin shaman printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Morningtide." This is one of the cards that encourage players to build around one or two creature types. In regards to Sensation Gorger, players are encouraged to build around goblins and shamans. Depending on what type of deck you are using, you can get a lot out of Sensation Gorger. One good deck would be a red and black aggressive-control deck.

The converted mana cost for Sensation Gorger is three. You will need two red mana and one colorless mana to bring Sensation Gorger from your hand and onto the battlefield. For what Sensation Gorger can do, the converted mana cost is well worth it. With the right combination of cards on the battlefield, the ability of the Sensation Gorger becomes very impressive.

What does Sensation Gorger do in the first place?

It has the ability of Kinship. At the beginning of your upkeep, you may look at the top card of your library. If it shares a creature type with Sensation Gorger, you may reveal it. If you do, each player discards his/her hand and draws four cards.

One can ask: How do you get the most out of this ability?

You could use "Sensei's Divining Top." You pay one mana and look at the top three cards of your library and put them back in any order. In this respect, you can do this before the start of your turn. Hopefully, you can get a goblin and/or a shaman card and make that the top card in your library. In this respect, Sensei's Divining Top comes in extremely useful.

You can use this ability to cause direct damage to opponents. You will want to use a combination of "Megrim" and "Wound Reflection." Megrim will deal your opponents two points of damage every time they discard a card. Would Reflection doubles the amount of life lost by your opponents at the end of the turn.

In this respect, say that you revealed the top and it was a goblin and/or shaman, your opponents discard their hands. You do too; but, you do not get affected by Megrim and Wound Reflection. One opponent may discard his/her hand which is five cards. In turn, s/he will suffer ten points of damage due to Megrim. That same player will lose ten points of life due to Wound Reflection.

Overall, Sensation Gorger is a good card to use because it could mess up your opponents badly. That is provided that you build a deck around goblins and/or rogues. If you have cards such as Megrim and Wound Reflection on the battlefield, you can use Sensation Gorger's Kinship ability to really do a number on your opponents.
