Does skin color really matter?

Does skin color really matter?

Skin color does not matter to me, and should not be a problematic issue with anyone who has half a brain.

My beginning line here is this: if the color of my skin would cause you fear then it is my belief that you are most ignorant, for it is obvious to me that you do not know or trust in the God of your creation.

To some people it seems that skin color matters entirely too much. That statement is not only made in concern for the white racist but also for the person who uses his/her skin color to give reasons why they did not make the team, get hired for the job, were put in jail, people are so against them, etc.

Example: Speaking up in opposition to the present President. There are people displeased with his ideas and say so. There are those who have objections, they say the ones who oppose him are doing it because he is black. I have news for them, he is also white. You say, "it's his skin color they don't like" How do you come to this conclusion? They are opposing something he has done or said, so how has that got to do with color? At times like this all I can think is, "Who is prejudice? Looks to me to be the folks who can see only his color who have the real problem.

When I was in the Army in 1963, stationed in Alabama for basic training, some Hawaiian ladies and myself went out for dinner together. These were some fun loving girls who had enlisted to serve, they and I needed some time off the base. Time to relax.

As we entered the restaurant I couldn't help feeling the sudden chill in there as eyes looked right at us. The conversation had ceased and it wasn't long before I found out why. A waitress came over to me, speaking in a near whisper she let me know that, "We don't serve n-s here". I spoke up and told her these girls were from Hawaii and were stationed in the military there. It didn't matter to her she wanted us to leave, we left. I vowed to never come there again as if they could care.

I had never in all of my young years witnessed such hatred. I was reared in Michigan and racial prejudice was something very rare. We, my family lived next door to a black family and we were good friends. Next door in Grand Rapids was only five feet or so apart. We had no race problem in the schools either. I simply was not accustomed to this.

As for President Barrack Obama I am in opposition to many things he endorses, such as abortion and socialism and those persons in homosexual behaviors getting married, but the color of his skin has absolutely nothing to do with my opposition. I oppose anyone who endorses these things, plus some others that have nothing to do with the issue at hand.

It is my understanding that God created the entire human race, black, white, yellow and red, and every one of us deserves the same courtesy and chances at jobs, education, and the like. To base my disapproval on color of skin says more than enough about my integrity and love for my fellow being. God bless everyone.
