The holidays are usually considered times of giving. However, during these rough economic patches, more and more people are trying to find gifts that are meaningful yet whose costs are within their budget. Fortunately, there are plenty of gifts that are priced right under $50. Here are a few ideas that will get your imagination going.
- Electronics: Although you may think that electronics are too pricey, think again. The many holiday sales and discounts that take place during the last half (and at the very beginning) of every year enables consumers to purchase electronics well below their manufacturer's asking price. For example, the SanDisk 4GB mp3 player is priced right at $39.99 (available at most electronics stores), while a no-contract cell phone such as the T-Mobile Motorola W233 is only $29.99. These great gadgets make wonderful presents that are sure to be appreciated.
- Movies: If you know any movie buffs, then you should already have a few gift ideas in mind. Movies make great presents, not only because they will bring a couple of hours of entertainment to your recipient, but also because they will be used over and over again. Many movies come out in DVD during the holidays, and they are usually priced between $11-$20, depending on where you shop.
- Jewelry: One of the oldest gifts given is jewelry. From ancient humans to modern people, jewelry has played an important role in human history as gifts. However, don't think that you won't be able to find a nice piece of jewelry for under $50. For example, an 8-inch sterling silver Cuban Link Bracelet is priced just under $45, and a pair of 1/4 carat diamond hoop earrings in sterling silver is also just $43. Remember, jewelry can be inexpensive (but can look expensive) if it is made with sterling silver or gold-plated metals. If you decide to purchase plated jewelry, try to find pieces that are plated with rhodium.
If you are in a bind to find holiday gifts for $50, don't worry, because as long as you know your recipient, you will find something that that recipient will appreciate. If none of these gift ideas are useful, try to think of hobby-related gifts. What does your recipient like to do? Once you have answered that question, you should have a list of gift ideas and many of them will cost less than $50.
