Poetry: Horror

by Lorraine Traylor

Created on: October 29, 2009

I wish for quiet dreamless sleep

and moonlit starry nights

I fear my soul I cannot keep

for In my dreams I soar to heights

then plummet to the ground

I hear the laughing in my head

it tears into my heart, the sound

I wake up screaming in my bed

Clutching my covers to me

sure that I will wake up dead

if such a thing could be

filled I am with awful dread

Always I am falling fast

wicked laughter all around

one dream just like the last

the only change that I have found

Each time I fall a little nearer

when all is over I will die

this I am see ever clearer

what I don't see is the reason why

I'll sleep no more to change my fate

I'll simply stay awake as days go by

for on the other side of sleep does wait

something wicked drawing nigh . . .
