Blogs (or Web Logs) have been around for quite some time but they have recently grown into widespread use as vehicles for individuals and companies to get their businesses noticed, to voice and gather opinions, and to promote and sell products and services. Some blogs have become interactive newspapers, giving their readers information and asking for instant feedback.
A successful blog has a dedicated readership, constant but effective updates and content that invites readership participation. Following are a list of just some blogs - from a diverse section of blogosphere - that do their jobs very well.
The Huffington Post
It's the best because it has a great mix of writers and covers a great mix of subjects. It has evolved from a blog no one took seriously to one read by millions every day. Huffington herself has switched political and social views in the past and can now be firmly called more liberal than conservative and had to fight to be taken seriously herself. Her blog lists several different views and though the site has a liberal slant, it doesn't shy away from opposing views. This blog is accessible to everyone looking for information about what's going on today.
Yarn Harlot
Stephanie Pearl-McPhee has tapped into the passion of millions of people around the world - knitting. This writer makes the craft fun and inspirational as she connects her knitting with her life as a writer, wife, mother and midwife. There is an especially funny post when her daughter creates the term 'wool pig.'
The White House Blog
Want a place to find out information in detail? Want to be able to submit questions or comments to the Administration staff? The White House Blog under the Obama administration is a wealth of information about the White House, descriptions of the administration members and even posts a list of presidential actions. It doesn't allow comments on everything, but there are times when readers are allowed to ask questions or send comments.
Joe Torres MLB Blog
This is a sometimes funny, sometimes irreverent view of sports, life and life in L.A. from one of the most successful baseball managers in MLB history. If you've seen any of his commercials, you know Torres has sense of humor to write a blog like this, but you would doubt he'd have the time. I'm not sure this is his writing, but it is good writing and if he's found someone to do it for him, he's found someone who knows him well and builds up his image. My guess is that State Farm hired a really good writer. But I hope I'm wrong - and it really doesn't matter. This is a flat out entertaining blog.
Frugal-Fashionista
Want to look like a movie star but spend like a fallen star? Frugal-Fashionista shows you a star look and then shows you how to get it for way less than they do. There's a list of stars on the right and all you have to do is click on the name. It's simple, straight forward and doesn't load you down with a bunch of advertising. It gets right to be point so it not only saves you money, it saves you time.
The blogosphere is filled with literally thousands of blogs covering every possible subject on the planet. Whatever your interest, you are sure to find a place where there is at least one other like minded individual who is writing about it and willing to post an opinion. The use of a search engine will match you up with a blog where you can find that person and voice your opinion right back.
