As a writer one of your daily goals should be to try and improve your writing ability. All writers have the desire to write better stories, articles and other materials. There are several things that you can do to improve your writing ability starting right now.
Write
It might seem funny but one of the things that you can do to improve your writing ability is to actually write something. I didn't get good at playing guitar by letting it sit in the case staring at it I picked it up and practiced everyday, the same goes with writing. The best way to get better at writing is to sit down at your computer and start to write something. This writing practice should be done as much as possible and everyday is best if you can manage it. As you write more you will become better at it and the words will come to you more frequently. Over time you will pick out our mistakes and you may even make less of them. The more you write the better your ability to write will become just like any other task like guitar playing that takes lots of repetition. Make writing a part of each and everyday and you will be rewarded for your efforts.
Read
As a writer you should also be an avid reader. When you read you open up your mind to new ideas, new styles of writing and your creativity. If your going to write a novel then read books in that subject area and as many as you can both good and bad and see how other authors write because it will help you to improve your own writing ability. If your just writing articles then you should read about that subject as much as possible and use that knowledge to generate fresh ideas. Reading and writing go together so use them both to the fullest advantage possible. You should make reading part of your day just like writing and learn all you can from other authors.
Training
Another way to improve your writing is to get professional training. It makes sense to take some courses to help improve your writing. You may not need them but they can't hurt and you may even pick up new ideas from the experience. This can be important if you want to write in some specialized area that takes skills that you may not already possess such as technical writing or some other field. You can also get training by reading every writing book you can get your hands on and using the Internet to develop your writing talents.
Other Writers
Talk to other writers and get their opinions on the craft. As a musician I talk with other players and it helps my playing improve so the same should go with writing. Join online forums, writing groups, subscribe to magazines, attend conferences and meet other writers. You will gain so much from these experiences that you can apply to your own craft.
Conclusion
You can improve your writing with hard work. Try to write everyday and read as much as possible, get some professional training if you feel you need it. Take the time to meet other writers and learn all you can about the craft. With time your writing will improve if you put to use all of this advice.
