Kellogg's Nutri-Grain bars are soft baked cereal / fruit bars that can be eaten as a healthier alternative snack.
I came across these a few months ago when I saw them next to the crisps at my local garage on my lunch break. Now I am far from the healthiest of eaters, but tried this on a whim since the bright red packet looked like it might be something I would enjoy.
Containing wheat, wholegrain, oats and with a strawberry filling, it was something I thought would subdue my guilt over snacking as surely all those things are better for you than a bag of crisps.
The actual bar is 37g. It's certainly filling and has enough substance that it will tide anyone over until lunch time, without having to resort to other snacks as well.
Now as I mentioned I am far from healthy when it comes to food. I'm not a fan of fruit in general and do not like oats particularly but I find these bars extremely tasty. The soft texture of the bar and the fluffy middle complement each other well. It doesn't have a strong taste, but rather a more texture related experience eating one. They just feel really substantial; the only thing I could nearly compare it to would be eating a slice of bread with a slither of strawberry jam on it. You can have a good chew and it takes more than a few bites to finish. Making you feel like you've really eaten something and to quench your hunger.
The bars come in various flavours including Apple and Blackcurrant also. I have tried and enjoyed these both, but find the strawberry draws me back. It's a slight bit more refreshing than the other types.
With only 131 calories and containing calcium, this is most certainly a preferred snack for me than a chocolate bar or equivalent. It doesn't curb my sweet tooth quite as much as chocolate would being a more savoury snack, but I find the sweetness of the fruit does help at least a little.
I really enjoy these bars and will continue to buy them; I get them in boxes of 8 from Asda at around 2.50 which is reasonable. They are a nice alternative to breakfast too on days when I do not have time to sit and eat a bowl of cereal. They come in an easy to carry fresh foil wrapper and can easily be popped into a handbag for munching on the go.
