Using aromatherapy safely

Created on: October 29, 2009

Essential oils were already used 4500 years before Christ. People produced perfumes and medicines from them. Ancient Egyptians used essential oils for embalming. While pure essential oil can treat skin diseases, some synthetic oils can irritate the skin. In some cases it even can cause asthma attacks. So to get the maximum benefit and avoid risk, you need to buy only the best product.

If your skin is sensitive, you have epilepsy or too high blood pressure, or even if you had a recent surgery, consult with a qualified aromatherapist before using essential oils. He will say is it safe to use these scented materials. If you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant, should give up some essential oils. They are listed below:

* basil, cedar, sage, cypress, myrrh, rosemary, angelica, anise, camphor, caraway, clove, Ceylon cinnamon, fennel, hyssop, juniper berries, lemon, muscat, oregano, parsley, mint, savory, tarragon, red thyme, etc.

You can purchase essential oils in trusted pharmacy or retail store. More information you can ask for your arometherapist. Keep oils in a cool place, in sealed brown glass bottles. Choose fragrances according to the complaint symptoms. Properly mix it before using a massage oil or bath. Stir ether and a simple oil or lotion at the recommended ratio. You can prepare more of it in advance. If the selected oil or a combination of them didn't improved your health, you should consult with a qualified specialist.

2) Add one or two drops of essential oil into a bowl of hot water, then cover your head with a towel and breathe steam for no longer than 5 minutes.

If needed, you can repeat such procedures up to three times a day. Also selected oil can be loaded onto a special lamp, but do not forget that in this case you breath a smaller quantity. This method is more gentle, more suitable to improve your mood or to calm down.

BATH

One of the easiest way to allow the body to absorb the oil - to lie in a bath with essential oils mixture.

1) Add to the water about 10 teaspoon oil carrier, which is mixed with appropriate quantity of essential oil. If the essential oil is dropped directly into the water, it can swim to the water surface and it will decrease its therapeutic effects.

2) Mix water and oil that it could spread equally.

3) Close the doors, windows, and
