The question is : Why should a Christian be discouraged from celebrating Christmas publicly? Christians have rights just like everyone else. Why should their right to freedom of religion be denied because they are celebrating the birth of their lord and savior Jesus Christ? Perhaps that is the answer to the question, people feel Christians should not be allowed to celebrate the birth of their lord. Oftentimes, we are too concerned with pacifying the unbeliever and compromising our beliefs in order to prevent conflict. Christians as a whole need to "stand up" and make their voices heard. They should not be ashamed to proclaim they are Christians. The Bible states if anyone is ashamed of Jesus, he will be ashamed of them.

The nation as a whole is not discouraged from openly celebrating Thanksgiving. We even have televised Thanksgiving day parades. If we left Christmas as purely a commercialized holiday, there simply would not be an argument at all. People would not feel threatened if we simply exchanged gifts and went about our merry way. But, you have Christians openly celebrate as a religious holiday and people get their "feathers ruffled". Christmas is a holiday because Christ was born, not because a man in a red suit who resides at the north pole with his eight reindeer originated the holiday. Should Christians be made to celebrate in private? I think not! This country was founded on Christian beliefs. If the founding fathers did not believe in the freedom of religion, they would not have written it into the constitution.

Christians are not out to physically harm someone else with their beliefs. What harm is there in a Christian celebrating Christmas in public? If someone is uncomfortable or is offended by a Christian celebrating Christmas, they have the right to express their opinion. They are entitled to their freedom of speech, but if you deny a Christian's rights then why would it not be fair to deny them their opinion. The old saying goes, What's good for the goose is for the gander isn't it? Why would we deny a people their constitutional rights because it offends another group of individuals. Christians should not compromise themselves or their belief system to pacify another. People do not want Christians publicly celebrating Christmas because it reminds them Christmas originated because Christ was born. When you take Christ out of Christmas, you are left with mas. How boring that sounds!
