The 2009 has been a phenomenal year for the music industry. So many new artists have emerged from out of their respective shadows. But any attempt to single out the "best" musical albums of 2009 would be futile. With so many genres of music and a success story to accompany each album/artist, I'm forced to choose a few of which I know have and will continue to do well.
~Drake "So Far Gone"~
Drake a Canadian born actor and recording artist, has made a good name for himself in Canada. But this summer of 2009, he decided to break away from his comfort zone and introduced himself to the U.S. His boldest move was the releasing of his album "So Far Gone". Originally it was projected that Drake's album would be very successful, as it had been in the underground mix-tape industry. But things got even better. In June 2009, Drake officially signed with the biggest hip-hop star's record label-Young Money Entertainment.
From here on, Drake's career lifted off to greater heights and achieved goals that were never dreamed of. For example, the album reached its peak on the Billboard's Top 200 at number 5 and by its second week it sold 109,000 copies. Additional collaborations and appearances by Bun-B, Lil Wayne, Trey Songz, and Young Jeezy have contributed to Drake's quick rise to fame and success within the United States.
~Jay-Z "Blueprint 3"~
Almost everyone knows who Jay-Z is. He's been in the hip-hop industry ever since 1996. And even more impressive is his 3 double platinum albums that sold back-to-back. Clearly, Jay-Z's track record proves his extreme success. So, no doubt, everyone expected just another blowout album from Jay-Z. But knowing Jay-Z, he doesn't stop improving. His latest album, the "Blueprint 3" sold 476,000 copies in its first week and became his 11th US number one album, breaking the infamous Elvis Presley's once prized record. By week two it still held its number one spot on the Billboard's Top 200! In the albums third week, it dropped down to number two but managed to sell 134,000 copies. Week four, Blueprint 3 sold another 89,000 copies. This brought the grand total to 997,000 copies of the Blueprint 3 sold. Week five brought another 65,000 copies sold. This put Jay-Z's album well over the one million mark, making the Blueprint 3 the 11th straight album of Jay-Z to go platinum.
The Blueprint 3 also did well in the U.K. It is currently ranked at number four and is Jay-Z's first album to reach the top ten in the U.K.
