Our children should not be used as door-to-door sales people for schools

Our children should not be door to door sales people for schools

Children might be excited to help their schools with fund raisers. However, there is a negative side as well as a positive side to children going door to door. When a parent is not aware of whose house their children are going to sell candy or other items the school has them selling, it can be very dangerous in this day and age.

With pedophiles and murderers sharing this world with us or living in the same neighborhood is a threat to our children. Although, their is sex offender registries across the nation, not everyone who is a child molester is registered or has been caught for child molesting. I'm not trying to scare anyone into making their children not sell for school's, but I am warning parents to put their children's safety, first.

There is noway a child should be walking the streets alone day or night selling anything for school. Parents who take the time to walk with their children to help them sell for their school should be commended for it, then they're the parents who doesn't have the time to do this with their children because of their work schedule or maybe they're too ill to go out with their children.

The positive side to children selling for a fund raiser is that it teaches them social skills and gives them a business sense so that when they are old enough to get a job or start a business they would have gotten their first lesson from fund raising for their school. From personal experience as a child I remember being forced by a teacher to sell candy for the school. However, I didn't tell my parents, I just brought the candy home and my dad ended up purchasing the whole box of candy I was supposed to sell, just to keep me safe so I wouldn't have to walk door to door.

Here is a tip, if your children have to sell for the school, make sure you've asked the teacher or principal is it something they will be graded on. As a parent you have many rights and you can refuse to have your child doing anything you feel is a danger to them. Let's not forget about child labor laws and the fact that they are not getting paid for what they sell for the school. A school trying to raise money for new books or new computers should get that in tax money alone. If you decide to let your children sell for school, walk door to door with your children. It also helps to sell to people you know like family and friends and a parent can bring some of the candy to work and sell it to co workers if it is alright with the boss.
