If you have chosen to stay at home with your child, then you already know the benefits this can bring to your family. Your child is receiving one-on-one instruction and care, adapts to your family's schedule, develops a major bond with you, and stays healthier than the average kid at daycare. Being a stay-at-home mom can be very rewarding for both of you, as long as you stay happy and sane in the process! Staying happy while staying home requires some fine-tuning on your part. I have outlined six tips for helping you regain your sanity (and you will lose it!)
Sanity Saver #1: Stick to a Schedule.
When you first bring home your bundle of joy, don't expect everything to fall into place right away, especially if this is your first child. You will have many sleepless nights that are not going to help you feel the least bit levelheaded! Set up a schedule as soon as you bring the baby home from the hospital. Don't underestimate how crucial this is to your sanity and the baby's complete well-being!
There are numerous studies that support setting schedules. Schedules help your child to know what to expect during the day, giving them a sense of control in an unknown world. It might take a while for your child to adapt to a routine, but eventually you both will see the light at the end of the tunnel. While staying on schedule isn't as easy during those early months, it is one tool that will become a cornerstone of sanity in your life. Keep regular naptimes, placing the baby in his or her crib. Sleeping on the go doesn't allow for quality rest. Run errands before or after naps. Keeping the baby rested will help you stay rested.
Sanity Saver #2: Clean Up (And I Don't Mean The Dishes!)
This tip is the most relevant to new moms, but even the most seasoned mother can go through this problem. Some days you just feel too tired to even put on clothes. You wear your pajamas all day, don't brush your hair, and you've started to view a shower as a luxury. Even when you feel like you may never sleep again, wash your face and get dressed. Those two steps alone will do wonders to make you feel better. If you can't get a shower during the day, jump in when your partner gets home and can watch the baby. You don't need to put on all your makeup every morning (unless that makes you feel complete and you can find the time!) Do make time to clean yourself up every day. It will work a miracle for your mind, body, and soul.
Sanity Saver #3: Establish "Me" Time.
The real bonus of naptime is
