Still one of the most popular of all hobbies worldwide, stamp collecting continues to thrive and newcomers to the hobby abound. For the serious and less serious stamp collector there is a large amount of help available to guide the collector, and part of this help comes from the numerous magazines for stamp collectors.
The American Stamp Dealer and Collector Magazine
The long established American Stamp Dealers Association publishes their American Stamp Dealer and Collector Magazine ten times each year. The magazine normally comprises in excess of seventy pages, printed in full colour, with articles highlighting various stories of interest from the Philatelic world. The articles are written by many of the leading stamp writers, and offers news of releases and stories that stamp collectors may otherwise miss. One aspect that does set it apart from other magazines is the sense of fun that it brings to the hobby, something which is epitomised by the fact that there is even stamp related fiction included in the publication.
Scott Stamp Monthly Magazine
The Scott Stamp Monthly Magazine differs slightly from the American Stamp Dealer and Collector Magazine in that although an American publication does over a more universal approach to stamp collecting. The articles in the Scott Stamp Monthly Magazine offer a look at stamps issued from all countries, both new and old releases. Like other stamp collecting magazines, there is also a plethora of interesting adverts in the magazine, depicting businesses and auctions, and providing a glimpse at the stamps on sale and also accessories to aide the stamp collector.
Stamp Magazine
Published in the United Kingdom, Stamp Magazine is one of the longest lasting of all stamp collecting magazines, as it was first published in 1934. This longevity has resulted from the establishment of a long trusted reputation, both in the UK and further a field. There is a slight focus on British and Commonwealth stamps, but there are detailed articles written about new and old stamps, and is one of the most informative of all stamp collecting magazines.
Gibbons Stamp Monthly
Another stamp collecting magazine published in the United Kingdom, Gibbons Stamp Monthly is even more established than the Stamp Magazine. Published by the world famous Stanley Gibbons firm in 1890, it is the best selling of all stamp collecting magazines. Gibbons Stamp Monthly also benefits from the catalogue supplements that are included in the magazine offering up to date price guides.
There are many stamp collecting magazines on the market, and although very similar each does offer a unique slant on the hobby. These stamp collecting magazines can be an indispensable tool to the new and experience stamp collector.
