OK. This song just makes me want cherry chap-stick. I have no problem with the fact that she is singing about kissing another girl. It is obvious that she feels as if she has to rebel and let everyone know that she did it. It is a catchy song, but the more I heard it being played in a crowd I started to notice the reactions around me.
Not everyone wanted to know about who she kissed. I know there were people changing the lyrics to this song. For example there was "I kissed a boy and I liked it." When I asked other girls around me why they were changing it they just replied, "I'm not a lesbian." Some lost respect for Katy Perry because of this song. Many parents did not feel as if this was a good image to set for young girls looking for a role model. The fact that she deliberately came out with this song is making a statement in itself. I'm sure Katy was aware of the reactions she would receive from putting out this song. It is such a sensitive subject for many people. Most guys that heard this thought this was just the coolest song ever. The two girls kissing each other fantasy does not seem as if it has died off yet. When that happens I suppose this song will become boring. I highly doubt that can happen with this song because there are people out there who see nothing wrong with singing this song out aloud for everyone to hear. Music has always been music to me so if it can make me want to dance, it is a hit in my book.
I can't bash Katy Perry. Since I do not want to get involved with all of the nasty twists and turns of the song I will say that it is a fun dance song. If you are upset and are driving in your car, play this song. You will instantly be lifted in a party mood.
The song is capable of getting stuck in your head so if you have not listened to it yet you have been forewarned!
If you don't try to overanalyze the lyrics and focus on having a great time you will get the message. Katy Perry kissed a girl and she liked it! I am not saying that this is a guarantee that you will want to go out and kiss a girl for yourself. However it will remind you that someone enjoyed doing it.
