Poetry: Addiction to prescription drugs

Addiction what an affliction
Started out just parting from time to time
Just once in a while thought it wouldn't hurt
But once in a while turn to a few times a week
I thought I was strong turns out I was weak
Started out drinking alcohol, smoking weed, pills, then meth
Taken acid, snorting coke ,free basing till nothin was left
Visiting the devil's den to hell and back again

Addiction what an affliction
I found myself on that long dark train
Wanting to get off but it just wouldn't stop
Wondering when or if I would do the dead man's flop
Several times I went to the door of that long dark train
Tried to jump off time and time again
But to no avail I found myself a passenger again and again

Addiction what an affliction
Anyone who thinks that they can keep their usage under control
Is living a life of fiction and find their selves out of control
Addiction not only hurts you mentally and physically
But everyone around you eventually pays
No matter what your addiction tries to tell you or says
So if you are considering taking a ride on that long dark train
Let me tell you to reconsider, think about it again and again

Addiction what an affliction
Every time you feel as though you've gotten free
You hear a little whisper say" Come play with me"
"Just one more time, it won't hurt"
That little sweet voice beckoning calling to you
So one more time you find yourself on that long dark train
Joansing, screaming, all in pain til you reach that high again
But you will find you will never reach that high again
So you do more and more you will do to try and reach that high again

Addiction what an affliction
It is all a lie and nasty nasty little lie
You will hear that sweet voice whisper " Just one more time"
"Come to me, play with me, let me make you feel good"
It will lie to you and make you think that no one knows what you are goin through
and that you are just misunderstood
But in fact it knows that, that one more time might mean the end and that you could die.
Addiction what an affliction.
