A Delicious Lunch or Dinner Meal for the Days After the Thanksgiving Feast.
How to prepare a sandwich made from Thanksgiving leftovers.
How to prepare a sandwich made from Thanksgiving leftovers. The Thanksgiving dinner table is often "stuffed" to the edges with hearty and filling food for those sitting around the table. With so much food leftovers are common, but Thanksgiving leftover sandwiches can be a tasty way to enjoy the leftovers for days after the big feast.
Here is a quick way to prepare a holiday sandwich that will leave you satisfied.
Gather all of your leftovers from Thanksgiving dinner including turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and stuffing. If you have leftover vegetables such as asparagus or baby carrots you can add them too.
Get a thick sandwich roll. You can use potato rolls, Kaiser rolls, or any type of thick roll. Don't use plain bread slices, this sandwich gets messy and needs a good hearty roll.
Cut the roll in half. Place a small layer of mashed potatoes on the bottom. Add a small amount of gravy to the potatoes. Slice some turkey and place a few slices on top of the potatoes. Put some stuffing on top of the turkey and use a knife to flatten the stuffing down. Pour a little more gravy on the stuffing which will absorb some of the gravy.
Cut up the leftover vegetables that you might have and place a few pieces on top of the gravy. Some people like to place another layer of turkey on top of the stuffing. Put some cranberry sauce on top and put the top of the roll in place. Gently push down to reduce the sandwich's height and hold it together.
Place it on a plate and microwave it for 30 seconds to 1 minute. If you like your cranberry sauce cold, wait until after you heat the sandwich to place the cranberry sauce on.
You can add pretty much any leftovers from Thanksgiving dinner to the sandwich and you may want to add a little salt and pepper to the top of the sandwich. You can also add a slice of melted cheese if you want melted cheese covering the stuffing and turkey inside.
You'll also want a good supply of paper towels nearby because this sandwich is a bit messy to eat. But it tastes great and ensures that your Thanksgiving feast leftovers do not go to waste. You can likely make a few sandwiches out of your leftovers for others in your house or for your daily lunch the next few days.
