We can all agree that the internet has a lot of great advantages. We can also agree that there are disadvantages. Part of the disadvantage is that we sometimes have to put up with bad behavior on the internet. Bad behavior on the internet is inexcusable. It isn't something that anyone should have to deal with. However, we put up with it all the time. There are different types of bad behavior and each one should be handled in its own way.
Here are some of the ways in which you can handle bad behavior on the internet:
Getting Hit On
There are times that you may get hit on by another internet user even though you have done nothing to bring it on. People will message you out of nowhere with disgusting requests. It is up to you to handle it in some way. If it is an unwanted advance, click out of the message and block the other person. This will keep them from being able to contact you again. If it is someone you know and you don't want to block them, tell them to stop it. You have the right to be on the internet without being harassed. If the person doesn't listen, you should block them even if you don't want to. A real friend would respect your wishes.
Rumor/Nasty Comments
It is easy for people to start rumors or make nasty comments on the internet. It doesn't make sense to decent people why this happens, but it happens anyway. Say something to the person who is making the comments or spreading the rumors. If that doesn't work, you can report them to whatever site the offense is taking place on. You can then block the person from your page. It may not stop them from doing their deed, but it makes it much easier if you aren't looking at it.
Defending Others
If someone is attacking someone on the internet and you don't appreciate it, even when it isn't you, speak up. You should never let someone else behave badly whom you are in contact with. If the person continues to behave that way, delete them from your friends list. You don't need someone as a friend who would treat someone else that way. What happens if you are the next one on the list?
Stay Away
There are certain sites that are offensive to many people. If you don't wish to participate, simply stay out of the site that you see as nothing but bad behavior. Nothing gets people more upset than to see things they don't agree with. It is silly to set yourself up for upset that you can't do anything about. If you really don't want to see it, don't go to it.
Bad behavior is all over the internet. It shouldn't be tolerated by you or anyone else. There are things that you can do in some cases. In the other cases, you should stay as far away from it as you possibly can. There is no point in getting all upset over nothing. It isn't worth losing your cool over.
