Virtues of salt

Salt is an inevitable component of life. You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. (Matthew 5: 13) Saying these words, hails a great religious man in history, exalting the matchless virtues of salt.


Yes, the virtues of salt are great. Just a little is enough. But it is quite essential!


TEN VIRTUES OF SALT


1) Virtue of taste

It is salt that adds flavor and taste to food without which it becomes very difficult to consume. It has been an inevitable ingredient in every food to add taste.


2) Virtue of survival

The salt is an important element for survival of both animals and human beings. Salt causes the process of removing the excess of acid from the different body cells especially the brain cells. It balances the blood sugar level in our body. Salt can give longer life. For example, if you add a pinch of salt to your flower vase water, you can see the cut flowers having a longer life.


3) Virtue of healing

Salt is a great healer. It is used in a lot of medications. For example, slightly salted warm water will make a very effective mouthwash. If you have a sore throat, make the water slightly hot with salt and use it as a throat gargle.


4) Virtue of preservation

Salt is a sustaining substance used in preservation. From time unknown it has been used for preserving foodstuffs like meat, fish and vegetables. It can protect them safe from decay for a long time. That is why salt is inevitable in cold countries where they cannot get any food in winter and have to use the salt- seasoned -foodstuffs.


5) Virtue of protection

Salt protects from insects, bacteria and even virus. For example, to get rid of ants, sprinkle salt on the shelves, window sills and other places where you see the ants. You can find out they will never cross the salt line and disappear soon.


6) Virtue of purification

Salt can clean and purify. It has the power to remove dirt, stains and bad odor. Salt is used as a polish for the old kerosene lamps and vessels. You can remove the nasty bad smell in your sink, with the addition of a strong, solution of hot water and salt.


7) Virtue of adjustability

Salt teaches us the virtue of adjustment. Adjustability in life is an essential virtue. Salt can adjust easily to any situation. It dissolves in water and can be put in any kind of vessel. That is why salt is given great importance in religious ceremonies.
