Christmas 2009: Gift ideas for beer lovers

Beer lovers all have a few common threads. They all love new and different beers. They all love things to drink beers out of. The extra special brand of beer lovers also love making beer. Look to these three loves when choosing a Christmas present for the beer lover in your life, in 2009.

Any true beer lover will appreciate any opportunity to try a beer that he or she had not previous had the opportunity to sip. This opportunity is the perfect Christmas present, and can be accomplished in many ways. First, and probably simplest, you can hit up the local beverage center, and locate some of the rarer or more expensive microbrews. A good beverage center will have hundreds of options, and consequently, choosing at random will likely result in a beer or two that your loved one has never had before. Even if you choose repeats, these beers are usually appreciated. While six-packs and four-packs are nice, it might be best to go for the larger singular bottles of beer. These are more expensive, but are also more likely to be originals. If giving actual beer is not your style, you can also give gift certificates to bars and restaurants that offer beer tastings.

Beer is great and all, but without something to drink it from, it is only beer, and not an experience. Any beer fan will appreciate gifts of mugs and steins. If buying a mug, make sure it is glass, and at least large enough to contain a pint. While smaller mugs, and those of different material can be interesting, they just don't tend to satisfy. Beer Steins are an exceptionally cool gift, especially if it is authentic from Germany. Not all beer drinkers will drink from their steins, but they are still great to look at.

Lastly, if your beer lover is the ambitious type, try getting him or her a home beer brewing kit. Home brewing is not as difficult as many people think, and the results are often fantastic. Not only do brewers get the satisfaction of brewing their own beer, but they get to make high quality beers at the same cost as lesser bargain brands. The original investment of buckets, cappers, tubes, etc. can all be bought for as little as one hundred dollars or so.

Knowing the person you are buying for will help choose what is best. Fortunately, most beer lovers have one last thing in common, they always appreciate their gifts.
