The Poet
The poet searches
for words, for rhyme
amidst church steeples
and dunghills,
in love's first kiss
and in the heartbreak
of love's goodbye.
For centuries,
the poet has felt
the stirrings
of something greater
than himself...
in a golden sunrise,
in stars that dot the sky.
At times the words
flow like water from a fountain.
At times the words
trickle like a slow moving stream.
The poet paves the way
for teardrops,
laughter,
anguish,
rage,
and thoughts that take us
to a deeper place of thinking.
The poet surrounds himself
with words that have yet
to be penned,
letting them root deep inside
before sharing them with
a world that is not always
receptive.
Still, the poet writes.

Poet's Hands
Nonsensical these words that constant flow
As dewdrops from the morning sun
In whispers through the warming air
In elevated composition mostly in the abstract
from fact to non-fiction, light, grays, blues and blacks,
greater spirits shared
together, she was;
together, she was
an impression,
she is still
underneath is what
i am after
is it skill?
i really am
not certain

Voice
i am but a child myself...
one of many children
of the soil of this earth.
and with dirty fingernails
i've crawled this
