Restaurant reviews: Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe at Epcot

The Kringla Bakeri og Cafe is located in the Norway pavilion in the World Showcase at Disney's Epcot theme park. Walt Disney World's Epcot theme park resides in Lake Buena Vista, Florida near Orlando. Epcot is home to Future World and the World Showcase. The World Showcase celebrates eleven different countries including Norway. For delicious pastries and the best sweet pretzel, a visit to Epcot's World Showcase should include a stop at the Kringla Bakeri og Cafe.

To reach the little Norwegian bakery, visitors must walk through Future World and walk to the left around the World Showcase lagoon. The Norway pavilion is the second pavilion and is located between Mexico and China. The Kringla Bakeri og Cafe is tucked just inside the Norway pavilion on the left side if you are facing the entrance to the Maelstrom ride. It is a small counter service bakery without any indoor seating. However, there are plenty of shady and picturesque places to sit in and around the Norway pavilion after you have purchased a coffee and pastry.

The Kringla Bakeri features delicious pastries, coffees and even sandwiches, salad and soups. It is considered a counter service restaurant and is part of the Disney Dining Plan. Its prices vary per item but nothing on the menu is more than what you would pay for a gourmet sandwich in a national chain restaurant.

One of the star attractions at the Norwegian bakery is the Kringla pretzel. This large doughy pretzel is smothered with sweet icing and sprinkled with sliced, toasted almonds. It is quite large and can easily be shared by two people. As of August 2009, a Kringla Sweet Pretzel was priced at $4.29. It is worth it. If you are a pretzel fan or even just looking for an unusual treat, you should try the Kringla Sweet Pretzel. It is very filling and it may not be a good idea to snack on one too close to mealtime.

Another popular treat at this bakery is the School Bread. This is not bread and not something that Americans would ever find in a school lunchroom. School Bread is a pastry that is filled with creamy, vanilla custard-like filling and topped with coconut. It is decadent and delicious. If you do not like coconut then this might not be a good choice. The coconut is generously layered over the top of the pastry. The School Bread costs about $2 and pairs well with a cup of black coffee.

The cloudberry horns are a unique pastry offered by the Kringla Bakeri. A cloudberry is native to Norway and is similar in taste to a raspberry but not
