When we talk about Iron Maiden we talk about a band that has been around for over 30 years, and to this very day keeps gathering new fans, no matter what country they go to. I first listened to Iron Maiden when I was about 9 years old, and already into heavy metal music, and thought, as I listened to the guitar riffs, the singing, the drums, the bass going off like machine gun fire, these guys are the best!
My opinion hasn't changed, and I'm 25 years old now. Many people may say that some of Maiden's albums are not all that good, but I do believe that all the albums are great, although I have to be honest and say that some of them are pure gold. Namely, Iron Maiden, The Number Of The Beast, Powerslave, and A Matter Of Life And Death, to me are the best of the best. One thing that Iron Maiden have always been able to do is to deliver that classic heavy metal sound that made them what they are, and that started in the late 70s, and this is the year 2009.
As a live act they are just amazing. I've seen them on their Somewhere Back In Time tour, and they were just out of this world. People may say what they want about heavy metal, and heavy metal bands, but I challenge anyone to listen to Iron Maiden and say that it is just noise. Bruce Dickinson's vocals are amazing, the guitar work from the trio composed of Adrian Smith, Dave Murray and Janick Gers is eye popping, Steve Harris's bass play just keeps getting better, and Nicko McBrain keeps pumping on the drums. To me they're pretty much the best live band I've ever seen, and I have seen my share.
There are plans for a new album to be released, probably in early 2010, and me, as many great Iron Maiden fans await this new release, hoping, and almost knowing that it will be another great work made by the great artists, musicians and songwriters that make Iron Maiden what they are.
In conclusion, for those who don't know Iron Maiden, I suggest that you listen to the first album, which has Paul Di'Anno on vocals, who was a great singer on his own right, but later decayed, and also I suggest listening to The Number Of The Beast, Bruce Dickinson's first album with Iron Maiden. After you did this, listen to their last album, A Matter Of Life And Death, and pay close attention to the guitar work. They are three guitar players after all, and all of them are great. Enjoy this music suggestion, and remember, always listen to good music, talented bands, and don't think that just because they are over 50 that they can't do things right.
