Can you really make money online?

by Alaina Forbes

The idea of making money online is, of course, everyone's dream. Unlike most dreams though this one can be a reality, it just takes a lot of research and digging. As with most legitimate ideas many people use the idea of making money online to lure money out of your pocket. People are so excited to start making easy money that they easily shell out their own money in hopes of an online job. When you first start looking for a job online or ways to make money online you need to be very careful. There are a few things you should watch for to avoid the scams out there today.

Does the job ask for your resume or application? If the company seems very uninterested in your background or experience chances are it is a scam. Do they give a detailed description of what the job is and what you would be doing? If the job description is non-existent or very, very vague then chances are there is no real job. Does the job ad sound more as if it is trying to sell you on the job instead of selling the job on you? If the ad for the job sounds as if it is trying to sell you it's probably a scam. Any real job is going to want you to sell yourself to them with your resume and experience not the other way around. Does the ad say something like "MAKE $2000 a week working part time!"?

Once again, if it sounds too good to be true then it usually is. Do they ask for money? This is a bad sign but if they start asking for money before they have even interviewed you then it is even worse. Always research a company before giving them your personal information. You can use the Better Business Bureau, FTC, Scambusters.com and Fraud.org to help weed out what is really legitimate.

Once you decide to start looking to make money online you should narrow down what exactly you would like to do. Some people want a real work-at-home job online that is reliable and pays by the hour. There are surprisingly many companies out there that hire people to work from home. You can start with Alpine Access and Working Solutions which are two companies I highly recommend for call center type jobs. If you are a fast typist or have a few kids running around the house you may prefer a non-phone job and can start by looking at Keyforcash and Speak-write. If you have a background in education there are a lot of companies that hire online tutors like Brainfuse and Wyzant or you could even grade standardized tests online for Pearson. Other jobs online include virtual assistant jobs, transcription, telemarketing or
