Poetry: High school reunions

by Carol Gioia

Created on: October 27, 2009   Last Updated: May 10, 2011

Reunion scheduled,
diet plan in place,
in anticipation of visiting
the past, face-to-face.

Gym decorated,
punch duly spiked,
band stirring up memories,
playing songs that we liked.

Football players sport paunches,
cheerleaders lack cheer,
enquire what they've been up to,
but don't really care.

Stories from the past
on which we reflect,
sound much more exciting
in retrospect.

All that future potential
has come home to roost,
are achievements for real,
or just ego boost?

Compliments abound,
but, if truth were told,
I'm still in my prime,
while they all seem so old.
