Is knowledge truly power?

Education is worth dying for. Its ability of liberating humans from ignorance is not something anyone could give up. Seeing that many people clamor for just a chunk of it is already proof how essential education is. The knowledge it brings is one hell of a thing to fight for.

As humans, we are innately insatiable especially in the search of knowledge and learning. The students, even if sometimes it is not visible, are always thirsty of knowledge, of learning. As the cliche adage goes, "Knowledge is power. Knowledge is the image of existence." According to Sir Francis Bacon, knowledge must not be denied to the children because knowledge and learning is always given, and thus it deserves to be known and imparted to the next generation. The responsibility of the teacher here is to deliver the lessons well. He must be equipped with the optimal strategies that he could come up with so that the students will be able to absorb every learning experience.

Knowledge has been the long-term goal of education. And knowledge has been misinterpreted many times. This is another reason why education is worth dying for. There is more in store for education. Many people took it as the ability to memorize the A, B, Cs and 1, 2, 3s. Many believed that when you can tell time or read the clock, that is already enough. Many assumed that when you can read, write and count, you are knowledgeable enough to survive in this world. Many equated knowledge to basic intelligence. So what happens in our school is that they fill our minds with complicated equations and highfalutin words, because when you can use all of these you are "intelligent" as some of them would put it. Therefore, you have the knowledge, and the power. However, in its deeper sense, knowledge is not just merely memorizing the alphabet nor the numbers and time. Knowledge is not just simply reading, writing, and arithmetic. Knowledge is like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow - very difficult to find, and somehow you are not assured if you really have it, not certain if the one embedded in your head is knowledge indeed or it is just some memorized information that someone injected.

Nevertheless, the fact that education offers more than what is mentioned above is already an ultimate reason to die for. Many of the world's population are not experiencing the pleasure of acquiring knowledge, and so if they do, it is safe to bet that they would sacrifice anything just to get a taste of it.
