Grand Rapids, Michigan is an interesting place in that it has many of the elements of a large city but still with a town-like atmosphere. "GR" is the second largest city in Michigan, trailing only Detroit, which is on the other side of the state. People have to keep in mind that Grand Rapids is in midwest, so it is subject to high humidity in the summer and sometimes frigid cold in the winter. Therefore, when people plan dates in Grand Rapids, they have to be aware of weather patterns. The city can be a nice fall place, and the spring can be truly welcome after a long, cold winter. Here are a few ideas on some of the best places to go on a first date in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park

This is a nice attraction because it has a variety of elements and can be a good place to just walk and talk during a first date. The garden is on 132 acres and includes a large outdoor sculpture collection, indoor and outdoor gardens, a tropical conservatory, nature trails, and tram rides. It can also be a nice date to attend an event in the Meijer Gardens ampitheater during their Summer Concert Series.

Gerald R. Ford Museum

A presidential museum may not be the most romantic plan to visit, but for a first date it might be a safe place and any presidential museum is going to be a somewhat interesting excursion into history. Visitors can explore exhibits that include a replica of the Oval Office and the Cabinet Room, as well as memorabilia from the 1970s and various events of the day.

During certain seasons, Grand Rapids can also be a great place to experience the outdoors. There are a number of places to hike and trails to bike. In addition, there are a number of great restaurants and walking places along the Grand River in the downtown area. There is also beaches, boating, and fishing if people are feeling a bit more adventurous.

Grand Rapids may not have the options of Detroit or Chicago, but it certainly has it's share of restaurants and night life. If people would rather visit this type of social gathering place on a date, there are plenty of options.
