American liberalism and the Democratic party critiqued

To critique one of the two major political parties here in the United States is a very hard task. The Democrats, more than the Republicans, are comprised of many competing groups for the party's soul. At times these conflicting viewpoints cause great problems for the party. Yet, there is much to be said about the Democrats and their party.

It would take a very long time and much space to truly critique the entire platform of the party. I will mention a few things I think are representative of the party.

The Democrats seem ultra cognizant of the power of the poll. Whatever way the political winds seem to blow they align themselves in that direction. I think the American public in general does not take the time to explore the issues.

So sound bites and short snippets of information are the way many Americans get their news. Polling plays a large part in the news and the Democrats use this to their advantage in a big time way.

As shown in the recent elections, the Democrats were intent on bringing out the worst news about the Republicans. Spurred on and aided by a mostly liberal big media this strategy worked to perfection. The party promised a new day in politics. Yet, they forgot a few things.

The people at the top of their party have some ethical and legal issues themselves. This is a defining trait of the party. They are willing to hold the GOP to a higher standard than the one they hold themselves to. While this may be good for getting elected it does not bode well for the country in general.

The Democrats do cast a wide umbrella in the factions they represent. Minorities, who can not find a home in any other party, find a place in the Democrat's family. This diverse group insures a formidable opponent at the ballot box each election.

These are some of the major points about the Democrats. There is no way to critique an entire political party in a venue such as this. It would take volumes of books. These few points, in my opinion, are some defining thoughts on the party.
